Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun has now formally launched Sugoi Japan and it aims to spread Japanese works like anime, mangas, and light novels to the world. Sugoi Japan aims to increase worldwide attention to Japanese works and have anime, mangas, and light novels be distributed to a wider audience. Here is the outline for Sugoi Japan which also has an English translation:
Basically, what Sugoi Japan aims for is to have Japanese works be acknowledged and noticed by the rest of the world and it has launched an online poll for people to vote which manga, light novel, entertainment novel or anime is their favorite work and would want to introduce to the world. Each media has about 50 nominees and each one of these nominees have been chosen by “experts” in the field.
The nominated works have to have been made from the period of January 1, 2005 until July 31, 2014 so newer works such as Gundam Reconguista in G won’t be included in the poll. This also means that older works such as Yu Yu Hakusho and Sailor Moon are also not included.
The anime nominees include a variety of familiar names from various anime genres like Sword Art Online, Darker Than Black, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, A Certain Magical Index, Aoi Hana, Lucky Star, Gundam UC, Gundam 00, Macross Frontier, Kill la Kill, Attack on Titan, Nagi no Asukara, Clannad, Free!, Aldnoah.Zero, Fate/ Zero, Madoka Magica, and many many more.
