Japanese newspaper, Yomiuri Shimbun, recently announced the winners of their annual Sugoi Japan 2017 awards. These are series voted on by Japanese fans which they feel deserves foreign attention. The awards are divided into four categories, and they are anime, light novels, manga, and Entertainment novels. The awards are given to works which have the potential to be big hits outside of Japan… even if the anime is already a big hit itself abroad. Here are the winners:

4 – Qualidea Code series by Wataru Watari, Sou Sagara, and Koushi Tachibana

3 – Yes ka No ka Hanbun ka by Michi Ichiho

2 – KonoSuba by Natsume Akatsuki

1 – Re:Zero by Teppei Nagatsuki

Entertainment Novels

5 – Hitsuji to Hagane no Mori by Natsu Miyashita

4 – Shinjitsu no 10-Meter Temae by Honobu Yonezawawa

3 – Konbini Ningen by Sayaka Murata

2 – Danganronpa Kirigiri by Takekuni Kitayama

1 – your name. by Makoto Shinkai 

While the anime awards circuit this year is being dominated by Yuri on Ice, Re:Zero managed to finally break its winning streak, as the skating anime failed to even make the Top 5. And Re:Zero didn’t just win the anime category, but the light novel category as well!

Meanwhile, My Hero Academia took the manga category, while the novelization of your name took the Entertainment Novels category.
