Leiji Matsumoto has introduced us to plenty of unforgettable works, including Captain Harlock, Galaxy Express 999, and Queen Emeraldas. Now, these anime franchises are getting their own special crossover anime movie trilogy! It’s called The Zero Century – Emeraldas, and Gainax revealed it in France during the Japan Expo event.

Leiji Matsumoto’s works are considered classic Space Operas, with the Gainax booth featuring the main artworks for Maetel, Harlock, and Emeraldas. Gainax is teaming up with Production GoodBook for the anime movie trilogy’s film production.

Gainax co-founder Hiroyuki Yamaga is directing the anime film trilogy, with Neon Genesis Evangelion character designer, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, doing the character designs. Katsumi Itabashi, who worked in previous Leiji Matsumoto works like Arcadia Of My Youth, Cosmowarrior Zero, Galaxy Express 999, Galaxy Railways, Harlock Saga, and Maetel Legend, will serve as the mecha designer. The trilogy is set to premiere in 2020.
