The Top 10 Chinese (or Chinese-inspired) male anime characters according to new Animeanime.jp poll
Japanese animation certainly has its fair share of Chinese or Chinese-inspired characters. This may be because Japanese culture itself incorporates a lot of aspects of Chinese culture. Politically, China and Japan may be rivals, but Chinese characters are certainly well-loved in Japan.
This may be why animeanime.jp’s latest poll involves some Chinese characters. Specifically, they asked fans to vote for which MALE Chinese or Chinese-inspired characters are their favorites. A total of 522 people responded, and here are the Top 10 results:
10 – Fon (Reborn!)
9 – Wufei Chang (Gundam Wing)
8 – Ren Hakuryuu (Magi)
7 – Hakutaku (Hoozuki no Reitetsu)
6 – Ling Yao (Fullmetal Alchemist)
5 – Ramenman (Kinnikuman)
4 – Lau (Black Butler)
3 – Syaoran Li (Cardcaptor Sakura)
2 – Kamui (Gintama)
1 – Ranma Saotome (Ranma 1/2)
While Ranma himself is Japanese, his design is certainly Chinese-inspired. Also, a lot of the characters aren’t really Chinese, but Chinese-inspired, such as Ren and Kamui, the latter of which is an actual alien from another planet.
So, who is your favorite Chinese-inspired character?
