The September 2017 issue of Newtype Magazine has now revealed the latest edition of the Newtype Rankings. For this edition, the Fate series took over, with Fate/Stay Night and Fate/Apocrypha characters dominating the Top 10, and even winning the anime rankings. Here are the results:

Male Rankings:

  1. Kirito (Sword Art Online)
  2. Archer Emiya (Fate/Stay Night)
  3. Shirou Emiya (Fate/Stay Night)
  4. Gintoki Sakata (Gintama)
  5. Tatsuya Shiba (Irregular at Magic High School)
  6. Rider of Black/ Astolfo (Fate/Apocrypha)
  7. Koyomi Araragi (Monogatari)
  8. Gilgamesh (Fate/Stay Night)
  9. Levi (Attack on Titan)
  10. Lelouch Lamperouge (Code Geass)

Female Rankings:

  1. Ruler Jeanne D’arc (Fate/Apocrypha)
  2. Saber Artoria Pendragon (Fate/Stay Night)
  3. Saber of Red/ Mordred (Fate/Stay Night)
  4. Asuna (Sword Art Online)
  5. Meteora Österreich (Re:Creators)
  6. Serval (Kemono Friends)
  7. Mikasa Ackerman (Attack on Titan)
  8. Shiki Ryouhi (Kara no Kyoukai)
  9. Tsubasa Hanekawa (Monogatari)
  10. Selesia Upitiria (Re:Creators)

Anime Rankings:

  1. Fate/Apocrypha
  2. Re:Creators
  3. One Piece
  4. Attack on Titan Season 2
  5. King of Prism: Pride the Hero

So much Fate! A total of FOUR male characters from Fate made it to the Top 10, while three female characters dominated the very TOP 3 for the Female Rankings. Not to mention it also took the #1 spot for the anime rankings as well. But wait, there’s something peculiar about the #2 and #3 entries for the character rankings. Ain’t the #2 and #3 entries for the male rankings the same guy, while the #2 and #3 entries for the female rankings, FATHER AND SON?!

Meanwhile, looks like Kirito and Asuna have taken the place of Lacus and Kira in the Newtype Rankings, as they are still surviving in the Top 10. But don’t worry, Kira will rise again as he always does.
