What if you work for a genius movie producer who could bring out the potential in everyone? But what if that producer is still stuck making B Movies and erotic films? That’s exactly the premise of Shogo Sugitani’s Eiga Daisuki Pompo-san, also known as The Cinephile. And now, Kadokawa has revealed that it’s also getting itself an anime project.
The story centers on a shrewd producer Joelle Davidovich Pomponette/Pompo-san at the movie capital “Nyallywood.” In spite of her ability to see trough the cast and staff’s potential and to make them use their talent fully, she has been making only B-class action or erotic films. One day, Pompo’s “movie-worm” assistant Gene Fini, who has been wondering about her choices of film genres, is given a new script written by her and is ordered to direct a film based on it. Will Gene be able to realize the masterpiece that she writes?
Kadokawa also revealed the anime project on the manga’s wraparound jacket band for its tankoubon release. That tankoubon volume was just released in Japan last August 26, 2017.
The announcement didn’t reveal the format of this anime project though, as we still don’t know whether it will be a TV anime, film, OVA, or ONA. More details will be announced in the days to come.
