Before Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma, there was another intense cooking battle show, and that was Cooking Master Boy. The manga was about Chinese chefs battling each other for supremacy, and it even got a TV anime adaptation. And that very TV anime adaptation was even shown here in Southeast Asia via AXN! Now, according to its original mangaka, Itsushi Egawa, Cooking Master Boy is getting itself a sequel series!
According to Ogawa, the sequel manga will debut this November in Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket app. It will then have one new issue every other week, which means it will be a bi-monthly manga series.
The original manga follows Liu Mao Xing, a young Szechuan chef who sets out in a journey to become a “Super Chef”. But to do this, he must fght other chefs with other cooking styles in heated cooking battles. Oh, and he also has to fight the Dark Cooking Society.
The first manga series ran from 1995-1997, while the second series, Shin Cooking Master Bioy, ran from 1997-1999. And it not only inspired a popular 52-episode TV anime, but also a 2005 Chinese live-action movie.
