Looks like Alicization ain’t the only upcoming Sword Art Online TV anime. This is because during the Dengeki Bunko Fall Festival 2017, the Sword Art Online panel also revealed a second SAO anime. This time, this new anime won’t be following Kirito and the gang, but will be based on Keiichi Sigsawa’s Sword Art Online Alternative Gun Gale Online novel series.

The anime will be a spin-off of Reki Kawahara’s popular light novels, particularly the Phantom Bullet or GGO arc. It follows Karen Kohiruimaki, a tall college student who develops insecurity due to her 6-foot tall height. She then starts playing Gun Gale Online (GGO) as a short character named Llenn. There, she meets Pitohui, and together, they enter the “Squad Jam” tournament a team Battle Royale.

Sigsawa, the light novel’s author, also wrote Kino’s Journey, so better expect a whole lot of guns coming into play. Currently, details are still scarce, so stay tuned here at SGCafe for more announcements about this new SAO spin-off.
