2018 is finally here, and we’ve already taken a look at the new Winter 2018 season’s new anime, as well as a few returning titles. And as this is still New Year’s week, we take a look at what new anime we should watch out for beyond this new season. We’re talking about new anime titles which will be premiering later this year, outside of this season.

For this list, we’re not including returning anime, and will purely just be new titles, so no A Certain Magical Index III, Full Metal Panic IV, etc. We’re also only including TV anime and Netflix anime, so movies and OVAs don’t count. And without further ado, here are our picks:

Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs

From Weekly Shounen Jump magazine, which has brought us Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, My Hero Academia, Hunter x Hunter, Black Clover, World Trigger, Shokugeki no Soma, and many more great shounen manga, comes this ever-controversial ecchi comedy manga, which will premiere sometime later this year.

Here’s how Jump describe’s the manga:

What he encountered at an eerie hot springs guesthouse was the ghost of a young girl?!  The odd story between a physical ghost buster and his ghost roommate begins!!

Uma-Musume: Pretty Derby

From Cygames (Granblue Fantasy, Rage of Bahamut) comes this new “idol” anime about anthropomorphic racehorses. Oh, and yes, they are racing each other too!

Golden Kamuy

Expect lots of action, suspense, and excitement from this anime, which is based on Satoru Noda’s bestselling and award-winning manga. Here’s the anime’s plot:

In Hokkaido, the far northern lands of Japan, Sugimoto survived the Russo-Japanese war of the Meiji era. Nicknamed “Sugimoto the Immortal” during the war, he now seeks the riches promised by the gold rush in hopes of saving the widowed wife of his now deceased comrade from the war. During his hunt of gold, he finds hints of a hidden stash of gold by corrupt criminals. Partnering with an Ainu girl that saves his life from the harsh climates of the north, they venture into a survival adventure to race against the criminals that seek the hidden stash.

Space Battleship Tiramisu

What do you get when you mix in mecha and science fiction anime elements, add in a shut-in ace pilot, and tons of laughs? The original Space Battleship Tiramisu manga was really hilarious, and hopefully, that comedy would translate well to the anime too.

Back Street Girls

Yakuza boss forces his male underlings to crossdress and become idols to make more money. Hilarity ensues. Yes folks, more traps!

AICO: Incarnation

Netflix has a ton of anime planned this year, and they are teaming up with Studio BONES for this action-packed new series. Here’s its story:

Set in the near future in Japan, year 2035. A major incident was known as “Burst” which was caused by researching artificial life. A certain AI called “Matter” has eroded the Kurobe Gorge. Entering the research city, which has been called as humanity’s last hope, has been prohibited by the government. Two years later, Aiko Tachibana, a 15-year-old girl who lost her family from the incident, was told by a transfer student named Yuuya Kanzaki the truth that Aiko didn’t know regarding a secret hidden within her body. The key to solve the mystery is said to be in the Primary Point, the center of Burst. When a boy and a girl, who bears the future of humanity, meet, what will be the new truth?

Lost Song

As the image suggests, this is yet another one of those new Netflix anime we were talking about, and here’s its story:

Rin, an energetic girl who loves to eat, lives in a verdant frontier village. Deep within the royal palace in the bustling capital city, the songstress Finis spends her days in solitude. Both share a special power no other person has. A miraculous power that can heal wounds, create water and stir the wind — the power of song. Guided by destiny, the two young women each face an arduous journey with the power of song. The shadow of war looms over the kingdom, tainting even the miraculous songs with the blood of innocents. Loved ones meet their deaths as silent screams echo through a stone prison. As two destinies intersect, will the final song be one of despair, hope or…?
