5 – Little Witch Academia

Studio Trigger did it again! We already loved the characters from the hit anime shorts, and with the TV anime, they made us love them even more. Still featuring great storytelling and lovable characters, the anime is truly a magical tale, and a must-watch for any fantasy anime fan. And it finally gives us a great ending for the story of Akko and friends too!

4 – The Saga of Tanya the Evil

The Saga of Tanya the Evil combines elements of a war story and adds in some magic. Add in some great storytelling, a good supporting cast, and of course, one evil maniacal loli as the main character and you’ve got a great anime in your hands. Let’s just say that you wouldn’t want to cross Tanya Degurechaff if you want to live.

3 – Re:Creators

What if anime, video game, light novel, manga, and fan-made original characters came to life? What if they suddenly had to find their creators, and a huge conflict that can destroy the world came between them. The anime is one huge crossover of stories within a story, and it certainly is difficult to pull off. However, Re:Creators managed to do so, becoming one of the best anime from 2017 indeed.

2 – The Ancient Magus’ Bride

This compelling love story certainly shows that you don’t really need a handsome male lead to pull off a great romantic anime. Add in a great setting, beautiful animation, and plenty of magical creatures, and you’ve got a very good anime. From Chise’s tragic backstory to her adventures with Elias, the anime certainly lived up to its hype. And while we’re certainly not counting the OVAs which were released before the TV anime, they do add to the splendor that is The Ancient Magus’ Bride.

1 – Made in Abyss

Much like Kemono Friends, not a lot of fans expected much when this anime first aired. However, Made in Abyss proved many wrong, as fans have changed their first impressions and loved the anime. It’s solid all-around, from a strong cast to excellent voice acting to good animations to great monster designs, made in Abyss in truly one great adventure anime. And while its two leads are children, don’t let that part fool you, as the anime’s story is as dark as the Abyss’s depths itself. Also, this anime is one of the few this year which actually drew tears from me, which means that it draws you in emotionally quite well. So if you haven’t checked it out yet, go ahead and watch it… but remember to bring tissues because you might cry near the end.

So that’s our list. And because we can only name 10 for our Top 10 (because duh), we decided to list a few special mentions which didn’t make the cut, and they are:

Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid

Knights and Magic

Restaurant to Another World

Princess Principal

Classroom of the Elite

Juuni Taisen

A Sister is all you need

So, what do you guys think of our picks? Did any of your favorites make the cut? Tune in tomorrow for our list of anime to watch out for this 2018! And again, Happy New Year everyone!
