The Sword Art Online universe doesn’t just focus on Kirito, Asuna, and company, but it also has a spin-off based on the world of Gun Gale Online (GGO). And much like the main series, it also has a TV anime, and its title is Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online. Now, the anime’s staff have released a new commercial for the spin-off, which also introduces the anime’s main characters.
Aside from the new commercial, the anime’s official website also unveiled a new key visual. It features the anime’s four main characters. Tomori Kusunoki will voice Llenn, while Youko Hikasa will voice Pitohui. Kazuyuki Okitsu will be M, and finally, Chinatsu Akasaki will voice Fukaziroh.
This new anime won’t be following Kirito and the gang, but will be based on Keiichi Sigsawa’s Sword Art Online Alternative Gun Gale Online novel series. It follows Karen Kohiruimaki, a tall college student who develops insecurity due to her 6-foot tall height. She then starts playing Gun Gale Online (GGO) as a short character named Llenn. There, she meets Pitohui, and together, they enter the “Squad Jam” tournament a team Battle Royale. Sigsawa, the light novel’s author, also wrote Kino’s Journey, so better expect a whole lot of guns coming into play. The anime will premiere in April 2018.
Aside from the new GGO-centric anime, the SAO video games are also focusing on GGO for the first time as well. In fact, Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet (PC, PS4, Xbox ONE) is getting released in Japan this February. Aside from Trap Kirito and Sinon, the game will also feature Alternative’s Llenn and Pitohui.
