Back in 2000, Kouji Ogata’s Boogiepop and Others light novel got a successful TV anime adaptation. And now, during the Dengeki Game Festival 2018 event, Dengeki Bunko announced that it’s getting a brand new TV anime adaptation with a different cast. This is all to celebrate the light novels’ 20th anniversary.

Aoi Yuuki will be the new voice for Tohka Miyashita, aka Boogiepop. They also announced that Saori Oonishi will be joining her as Nagi Kirima. As for the staff, the event also revealed that One Punch Man’s Shingo Natsume will be directing the series over at Madhouse. The studio previously animated the original TV anime back in 2000.

Here’s how Seven Seas, which distributes the light novels in English, describes the series:

There is an urban legend that children tell one another about a shinigami that can release people from the pain they may be suffering. This “Angel of Death” has a name: Boogiepop. And the legends are true. Boogiepop is real.

When a rash of disappearances involving female students breaks out at Shinyo Academy, the police and faculty assume they just have a bunch of runaways on their hands. But Nagi Kirima knows better. Something mysterious and foul is afoot. Is it Boogiepop, or something more sinister…?
