Sunrise and Bandai recently held new project unveiling livestream for the Gundam franchise. Of course, this included the announcement for the new Mobile Suit Gundam NT anime project and kits. However, it seems that it’s not the only new Gundam project coming out of the Universal Century in the near future. This is because the livestream briefly showed a few of the Universal Century works being planned in the future. The timeline lists a Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash film trilogy and a Gundam UC2 drama.
The timeline lists Gundam NT to happen around Fall/Winter 2018, with its Universal Century timeline happening on UC 0097, a year after the events of Gundam UC (Unicorn). But the big thing that the timeline reveals is that Bandai and Sunrise seem to be planning Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash a year later. They listed the project to be a film trilogy, and they’re planning it to premiere around Fall 2019 or later. But it also seems that they’re looking a bit later towards the future because the timeline also lists Gundam UC2 in Overseas drama format for the year 2022. However, the hosts told the audience watching to “pretend that they didn’t see that” in the livestream. It seems that the last two projects haven’t been green-lit yet.
Gundam franchise creator, Yoshiyuki Tomino, wrote Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash as a 3-volume novel series. They center on Hathaway Noa, the son of Bright Noa, who was a major character in the original Gundam anime.
While Sunrise seemingly hasn’t green-lit the project yet, many fans have been clamoring for an anime to adapt the Tomino novel series. But whether these projects have already been decided on or not is still anybody’s guess. Expect Sunrise to make more announcements about this new anime soon. And yes, better expect new GunPla kits coming up as well.
