It looks like Ghost in the shell isn’t just getting one new TV anime season, but two! According to Production I.G. USA president Maki Terashima-Furuta in an interview during the San Diego Comic-Con last July, there will be two new Ghost in the Shell TV anime seasons. She elaborated that each season will have 12 episodes, but will have different directors. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex’s Kenji Kamiyama will be directing one of them, while Applessed’s Shinji Aramaki is directing the other. But while Terashima-Furuta revealed a few more details on the new Ghost in the Shell anime, she really didn’t reveal any much more. They are yet to reveal when these new seasons will be premiering.
Based on Masamune Shirow’s Ghost in the Shell manga, the original anime premiered as a theatrical film back in 1995. Production I.G. was also responsible for animating the project, as well as all the other anime which followed in the franchise. The series also inspired several video games, as well a a Hollywood movie which starred Scarlett Johansson.
