Polygon Pictures, the same animation studio behind the Godzilla anime and Knights of Sidonia, has something new in store for fans. This time, they’re collaborating with Lucas Film once again to animate a new Star Wars animated series. This time, it will be set in the timeline of the new trilogy, and its title is Star Wars: Resistance.
Because this is Polygon Films we’re talking about, the new anime will be a 3DCG one. It will be serving as a prequel to Episode VII, The Force Awakens. Here’s how the studio’s official website describes the new anime:
Star Wars Resistance is an animated series set amongst the events leading up to Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While many details are yet to be announced, it will follow Kazuda Xiono, a young pilot recruited by the Resistance and tasked with a top-secret mission to spy on the growing threat of the First Order, along with appearances by established characters including Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma.
The studio also revealed that the Disney XD will be releasing the new anime internationally by Fall 2018.
Polygon Films has worked on several well-known 3DCG anime such as Ajin: Demi-Human and Knights of Sidonia, as well as the Godzilla anime. They also worked with Lucasfilm before for the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series back in 2008.
