The popularity of Japanese idols around the world is growing exponentially. One of the countries which is riding this J-idol wave is of course, the Philippines which even got its own AKB48 sister group, the MNL48. The country also recently held its own indie idol group event called Manila Idol Matsuri. It not only featured all those indie idol groups, but MNL48 members themselves as well. Unfortunately, a little incident got the event organizers in hot water recently.

Apparently, “The Biggest Gathering of Pinoy Idol Groups and Fans in Manila” didn’t do much to secure the backstage area where the performers kept their personal items. Because of this, many of them were robbed, and approximately PhP 80,000 worth of valuables were stolen. Several performers even went to social media to voice their concerns. It’s unclear whether the AKB-sister group’s members were among the victims.

Unfortunately, it seems that the organizers did not even release any statement regarding the incident. There were also reports of victim-blaming, as some have blamed the performers themselves for not securing their items while performing. Of course, this resulted in a huge online backlash among fans.
