In the late 70’s, a certain mecha series changed the anime landscape forever. It’s name was Mobile Suit Gundam, and as it celebrates its 40th anniversary, Bandai and Sunrise held a special livestream announcing the landmark 40th anniversary celebrations.

One of the biggest announcements is that they’re adapting Yoshiyuki Tomino’s Kidou Senshi Gundam: Senkou no Hathaway (Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash) novel series into an anime movie trilogy. They even revealed a teaser visual:

The livestream also revealed other upcoming works. These include a new Gundam Reconguista in G (G-Reco) compilation film, as well as a new Gundam Build anime coming in 2019. There’s also a new Gundam the Origin TV series which would be retelling the events of the movie series. Finally, they revealed that they’re also doing a new SD Gundam anime titled SD Sangokusoketsuden.

The new G-Reco film will premiere in 2019, while the Gundam the Origin TV anime is coming in April next year. Expect Sunrise to make more announcements about these series soon enough.
