After months of teasing, we finally get our first look at the upcoming live-action Touken Ranbu movie. This comes in the form of a new key visual, which not only features some of the sword boys, but also announces the movie’s release date. That’s right folks, the live-action Touken Ranbu movie will premiere on January 18, 2019.
From the text in the key visual, it looks like their mission is to assassinate Oda Nobunaga. Kouji Yamamoto is playing the legendary “Demon King”, while Norito Yashima will be playing Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
TOHO will be distributing the movie, and Saiji Yakumo is directing it. Yasuko Kobayashi, who wrote the scripts for the Attack on Titan and Kakegurui TV anime, will also be writing the scripts for this one. Several actors from the live-action Touken Ranbu stage plays will also be reprising their roles for the movie.
The actors confirmed to reprise their roles from the stage play includes Hiroki Suzuki as Mikazuki Munechika, Yoshihiro Aramaki as Yamanbagiri Kunihiro, Ryou Kitamura as Yagen Toushirou, Masanari Wada as Heshikiri Hasebe, and Taizou Shiina as Fudou Yukimitsu. Meanwhile, other new actors are also joining the cast, such as Hiroaki Iwanaga as Nihongou, Fuuma Sadamoto as Honebami Toushirou, and Tomoki Hirose as Uguisu Maru.
Touken Ranbu Online features sword boys as they fight against historical revisionists throughout Japan’s history. These historical revisionists are trying to rewrite history, while the sword boys try to preserve it. It received two different anime adaptations in Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru and Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu. The latter is getting a movie, while the former’s season 2 is currently airing. And it also has a very successful and popular live-action stage play too!
