While many anime movies opt for fictional locations as their settings, there are those who choose real-life locations outside Japan. The K-On! movie chose England as its setting, while Love Live! chose New York. Heck, a Doraemon movie’s setting was in Antarctica even! And now, with the new Detective Conan: Fist of the Blue Sapphire, it seems that they will be doing it right here in Singapore. In fact, you can see the Marina Bay Sands prominently in the anime’s new key visual, as revealed by the anime’s official website:
Looks like good’ol Kaito Kid is making some moves on Ran, and Conan ain’t having none of that. But then you see Marina Bay Sands, and this makes you wonder what other Singapore locations will the movie feature, huh? Previously, the critically-acclaimed A Place Further Than The Universe has gotten much attention thanks to featuring one episode in the country. And yes, the Marina Bay Sands and the Merlion were quite prominent in that episode as well.
As for the new Detective Conan movie, it will premiere in Japan on April 12, 2019. Much of the cast will be reprising their roles from the TV anime and other films as well! Expect the staff to reveal more details in the days to come.
