Japanese magazine, Weekly Bunshun Digital, has reported that the Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau has conducted a search of various offices, cafes, and studios belonging to animation studio, ufotable. The searched areas include the animation studio in Suginami, Tokyo, as well as the ufotable cafes in Kouenji and Tokushima.
The magazine reported that the searches are part of the Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau tax evasion investigation into the studio. The report also stated that ufotable founder, director, and president, Hikaru Kondo, allegedly received merchandise sales revenue directly.
According to the magazine, they reached out to the bureau and ufotable. Unfortunately, the bureau could not comment on specific cases, while the studio directed the questions to Kondo himself, who did not respond. The magazine also stated that their sources related to the situation have said that Kondo admitted to the charges during the searches.
ufotable is best known for several Fate anime, including Unlimited Blade Works, Heaven’s Feel, and Fate/Zero. They also produced the God Eater anime, as well as the animations for the game.
