Last week, Japan officially announced that the Heisei Era is almost over, and it revealed its new era, which is the Reiwa Era. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe revealed that this new era takes its name from a poem about plum blossoms in the Manyoshu, the oldest printed collection of Japanese poetry, which was compiled in the 8th century.
And as expected, anime fans worked fast to turn the new era into a cute anthropomorphic anime girl. Many of which take inspiration from plum blossoms. Each artist also had their own designs, so “Reiwa-chan” doesn’t really have a fixed look. It was all up to the artists’ interpretation of what she might look like as an anime girl.
