Miss the original Death Note already? Don’t worry folks, because one of the original mangaka, Takeshi Obata, is returning to the series to do a special one-shot. The June 2019 issue of Jump Sq. magazine says that Obata will debut part of the full manuscripts in a special event dedicated to the mangaka at the 3331 Arts Chiyoda in Tokyo. The event will happen from July 13 – August 12, 2019.
Jump SQ. stated that the manga will be having a focus on the Shinigami, particularly on the things they bring when they come to Earth. Aside from the new Death Note one-shot, Obata will also debut his new work, “Never Complete,” during the event.
Obata worked with co-mangaka Tsugumi Ohba on Death Note, with Ohba doing the story and Obata doing the artwork. They also worked on Bakuman together as well. Aside from Death Note and Bakuman, Obata also worked on the manga, All You Need is Kill. That manga was then adapted into the successful Hollywood movie starring Tom Cruise, Edge of Tomorrow.
