Detective Pikachu has went on to become the highest grossing video game film of all time. And unsurprisingly, with the success of the Marvel movies, fans are already talking about a possible crossover film for Nintendo franchises. Yes, they’re already talking Super Smash Bros!
Screen Rant’s Riley Little recently sat down with Detective Pikachu writers Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit. Little asked them on how they would approach doing a Super Smash Bros. film. This would all be hypothetical of course. To this, they said that they have to make good movies from other franchises like The Legend of Zelda and Kirby first.
“I think that the key to doing anything like that is to make sure that the other introductory movies are sensational. It’d be a dream to write something like Legend of Zelda, but before you can get to that Smash Bros stage you have to write the best damn version of The Legend of Zelda that you possibly can. And the same with Mario, the same with Kirby, the same with Star Fox.”
Samit added, “Avengers: Endgame is only as good as it is because we loved all of those characters individually, so when it came together it was just magic. And I think that’s how you have to approach the Smash Bros.”
Right now, the two writers are busy with the Pokemon stuff, as Detective Pikachu has proven to be a huge success. As Screen Rant noted, “Nothing has been officially detailed on what fans of Detective Pikachu can expect moving forward, but there are a few directions that the live-action take on Pokemon could go.”
