Wanted more of the Ultraman anime on Netflix? Good news, because during the 2019 Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France, Netflix announced that the 3DCG anime adaptation of Eiichi Shimizu and Tomohiro Shimoguchi’s Ultraman manga is officially getting a second season! They also revealed a brand new key visual featuring the new Ultraman as well:
During the event, they also announced that directors Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki are both returning, as well as much of the staff and cast. Meanwhile, Production I.G and Sola Digital Arts, in cooperation with Netflix, are once again producing the new Ultraman anime.
The first anime season premiered globally on Netflix on April 1. Here’s how they describe the anime:
Several years have passed since the events of Ultraman, with the legendary “Giant of Light” (光の巨人 Hikari no Kyojin) now a memory, as it is believed he returned home after fighting the many giant aliens that invaded the Earth. Shin Hayata’s son Shinjiro seems to possess a strange ability, and it is this ability, along with his father’s revelation that he was Ultraman, that leads Shinjiro to battle the new aliens invading the Earth as the new Ultraman.
