After thorough DNA testing, police have now identified all 34 victims of the tragic Kyoto Animation arson fire. They plan to release the names “soon”. KyoAni lawyer Daisuke Okada has stated that they are prioritizing the families of the victims. He also added that they will not be releasing the names of those who passed away until all of the funerals are over.
However, the Mainichi Shimbun, a reputable newspaper in Japan, has revealed that the family of one of the deceased has come forward to reveal that their daughter was one of the victims. The parents and brother sat down with the newspaper, and revealed that one of the ones who passed away was 49-year-old Kyoto Animation color designer Naomi Ishida. Ishida usually worked in KyoAni’s Studio 2, so they assumed that their daughter was safe initially. However, they checked anyway and was unable to reach her phone. The authorities would later tell them that their daughter was one of the people who passed away in the fire.
Ishida has been working as a colorist for the studio since 1993. She worked as the main color designer for some pretty big anime, including The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (both seasons), HYOUKA, and Amagi Brilliant Park. She has also worked on other titles like Air, Kanon, Clannad After Story, Free! Eternal Summer, Violet Evergarden, Sound! Euphonium 2, Free! Dive to the Future, and Tsurune.
