After posting a politically-charged image featuring Yami Yugi, the Dark Magician, and the Dark Magician Girl urging people to vote and saying the the current ruling party is destroying Japan, it looks like Yu-Gi-Oh! mangaka and creator Kazuki Takahashi is backing down. He recently apologized for using his characters to voice his political views. However, it seems that he is not backing down on those views, as he hasn’t taken down the artwork yet.
In his most recent statement, he said that he was being a nuisance. He also admitted that he has various opinions and deeply apologised for using his characters to express his political views. However, the only thing he’s apologizing for is for using the characters and not his statements against the current ruling party.
In his post, the mangaka featured Yami Yugi, the Dark Magician, and the Dark Magician Girl. He urged “all duelists” to “Vote for Justice”. He also wrote that “the current administration is betraying its own country”, and also added that he wonders if Japan’s future is OK.
124 of the 245 seats from the Japanese Diet’s Upper House, the House of Councilors, will be up for grans in this election. Abe’s party, Liberal Democrats, is currently in control. Given how Takahashi isn’t such a big fan of the party, he is urging people to change things up and make their voices heard.
