When it comes to horror master Junji Ito’s many works, Uzumaki is certainly one of the most disturbing. And during the horror mangaka’s panel discussion during the Crunchyroll Expo event in the United States, they revealed that the classic horror manga is getting a TV anime mini-series.
Production I.G. is producing this new anime, with Mushi-shi’s Hiroshi Nagahama at the helm of the project as its director. The anime itself will be released in the United States before it even gets aired in Japan, with Adult Swim’s Toonami block showing it in the country. A teaser for the anime was shown during the panel.
Viz media, which distributes the manga in English, describes its story as:
Kurouzu-cho, a small fogbound town on the coast of Japan, is cursed. According to Shuichi Saito, the withdrawn boyfriend of teenager Kirie Goshima, their town is haunted not by a person or being but a pattern: UZUMAKI, the spiral—the hypnotic secret shape of the world. The bizarre masterpiece horror manga is now available all in a single volume. Fall into a whirlpool of terror!
Expect Toonami or Production I.G. to reveal more details in the days to come.
