And yes, here’s a side-by-side comparison of the original design vs. the new redesign:
Sonic the Hedgehog director, James Fowler, previously revealed that the upcoming live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie will be delayed to February 14, 2020. The announcement comes after the huge fan backlash on Sonic’s design, which also forced producers to to do a redesign. Of course, this worried many in the animation industry, stating that the redesign might work the people working on Sonic to death. However, the the delay, it would seem that the animators are getting more leeway.
Fans mostly criticized Sonic’s fur, eyes, and teeth, and going as far as saying that the design really looks creepy. And with fans actually being this vocal about the design, the movie’s staff just had to change it. And with the delay, it allowed animators to properly do the redesign. Thanks internet!
