Kyoto Animation has been moving forward with all its projects following that horrific arson fire which killed 26 people and injured many others. The company is still recovering though, but are showing a strong front. Unfortunately, things aren’t normal yet for the people over at the famous studio, as many of their workers still bear the scars and burns from that day, both physically and emotionally. And now, the studio has announced that they are delaying the upcoming Free! movie for “various circumstances”.
However, the delay announcement did promise that the director and staff are working hard to meet fan expectations. It also promised to reveal a new release date soon. They originally announced that the movie will premiere in Summer 2020. However, with the delay, that won’t be happening anymore.
The Free! ~Road to the World~ Yume (Dream) movie was the latest movie for the franchise, and was a compilation film for Free! Dive to the Future. This movie was supposed to be a direct sequel with an original story to that one. Expect KyoAni to reveal more details about the new schedule in the days to come.
