Kyoto Animation may have suffered, but they’re certainly unbowed. The arson attack has killed 36 people, and injured many others, as well as burned away millions of yen worth of anime equipment and works. However, the Kyoto-based studio has decided to move forward and release Violet Evergarden the Movie. And after delaying the anime film, they’ve now announced its new release date, which is April 24, 2020.
The anime’s official website also had a message for fans regarding the film and thanked them for their support. It also added that they’re working hard with all their hearts and strength for the anime movie’s production.
They originally scheduled the film for January 10, 2020. However, due to the horrific arson attack, the studio decided to delay the film’s release. However, Violet Evergarden’s Side Story film, Auto Memories Doll, did get its release on schedule. It made its world premiere in Germany despite all that happened. It then premiered in Japan, and was so successful that they extended its theatrical run.
As for the international release of the film, KyoAni’s statement did not mention anything yet. But do expect the staff to reveal more details in the days to come, so stay tuned.
