If you haven’t heard already, Rurouni Kenshin is getting another live-action movie. It will be split into two parts, and the staff have just announced their release dates. Rurouni Kenshin Saishuushou The Final will open first, on July 3, 2020. The second “final” film, Rurouni Kenshin Saishuushou The Beginning, will then open in August 7, 2020. They also revealed actor Takeru Satoh as Kenshin in a new key visual:
In addition, the staff also released a teaser photo of the main cast in costume. Aside from Satoh, it also features Emi Takei as Kaoru Kamiya, Munetaka Aoki as Sanosuke Sagara, and Yuu Aoi as Megumi Takani.
Director Keishi Otomo will be returning from the original trilogy to direct the two films. Warner Bros. has confirmed that these will be the final films for the franchise, and it will be covering the final arc from Watsuki’s beloved manga., which is the Jinchuu arc. “The Final” will follow Kenshin’s conflict with the mysterious arms dealer, Enishi. Meanwhile, The Beginning will be a prequel of sorts, and will tell the story of how Kenshin got his iconic scar.
Principal photography for the films have ended already, and they shot several scenes all over Japan. And now, all we need to do is wait for those dates mentioned above…
