The life-size RX-78-2 Gundam once stood proudly in front of Diver City Tokyo mall in Odaiba. Unfortunately, they replaced it with the life-size Unicorn Gundam, leaving many fans of the original wondering what happened to it? Well, it looks like the life-size version of the original Gundam is finally returning, this time in Yokohama. It will be part of the Gindam Factory Yokohama, and unlike the one in Diver City Tokyo, this RX-78-2 will be able to move!

Like the original, it will also stand at 18 meters. They will reveal it to the public, but its run will be limited. It will be part of the Gundam Factory Yokohama project, which will run at the Yamashita Pier in Yokohama City from October 1, 2020 until October 3, 2021.

The life-size moving Gundam will include a hanger, as well as a “Gundam Lab” where people can learn the mechanisms of its movement. They are also launching the “GUNDAM Cafe YOKOHAMA Satellite”, as well as the “GUNDAM-DOCK TOWER” special viewing deck.

This is all part of the Gundam Global Challenge, which they launched back in 2014 to celebrate Gundam’s 40th anniversary. One of the aims of the project is to produce an actual moving Gundam. And from the looks of things, they are achieving that goal.
