The Promised Neverland’s live-action adaptation is off and running, and they finally revealed who will be playing the film’s two main villains. Keiko Kitagawa, who played Sailor Mars in the live-action Sailor Moon, will play the “Mama” herself, Isabella. Meanwhile, comedian Naomi Watanabe will be playing Krone.
In addition, the anime’s official website also revealed new still images from the upcoming movie as well:
Minami Hamabe, who previously starred in the live-action AnoHana movie as Menma and the live-action Saki film as Saki Miyanaga, will star as Emma. Her co-leads include 13-year-old Jyo Kairi as Ray, as well as 17-year-old Rihito Itagaki as Norman. Hamabe is a known fan of the manga, having bought physical and digital copies of The Promised Neverland. As for the director, the live-action ERASED series’ Yuuichirou Hirakawa is directing the film. It will premiere on December 18, 2020.
Due to the ages of the lead actors, they shifted the ages of the characters from 12 to 16. Here’s how Viz describes the manga’s story:
Emma, Norman and Ray are the brightest kids at the Grace Field House orphanage. And under the care of the woman they refer to as “Mom,” all the kids have enjoyed a comfortable life. Good food, clean clothes and the perfect environment to learn—what more could an orphan ask for? One day, though, Emma and Norman uncover the dark truth of the outside world they are forbidden from seeing.
