After getting delayed for almost a decade, the official Evangelion anime film website has some more bad news for fans. Yes folks, it looks like Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0 movie is getting delayed… Again. This time, the cause of the delay wasn’t Hideaki Anno’s depression, but COVID-19. Anno himself wrote a hand-written letter stating the delay.
Anno said that he wants people to watch the movie with some peace of mind. He promised to continue production and release the film worldwide. Expect them to announce a new release date soon.
Aside from Anno’s letter, they also released a new visual for the movie. It also features the movie’s English tagline, “Bye bye, All of Evangelion”.
The movie was supposed to open in Japan on June 27, 2020 after eight years of waiting. Studio Khara will once again be animating the movie, with creator Hideaki Anno (Shin Godzilla) also returning to direct it as well. Hideaki Anno’s Studio Khara announced the film back in 2012. Unfortunately, Anno’s personal issues, as well as other issues, kept pushing the film back.
