Looks like we’re not getting to see some college dudes go drunk and running around stark naked unfortunately. The staff of the live-action movie adaptation of Kenji Inoue and Kimitake Yoshioka’s hilarious Grand Blue movie has announced that it won’t be hitting theatres as planned next month. And of course, the main culprit for the movie’s delay is the Coronavirus.
Movie theaters have been shutting down all over Japan due to social distancing measures the government is implementing. This is all to contain Japan’s coronavirus outbreak, which is regarded as one of the worst in the world. The staff will be announcing a new release date for Grand Blue as soon as they’ve decided on when it will now premiere.
Ryou Ryuusei will play main character Iori Kitahara, while Atsuhiro Inukai is playing Kouhei Imamura. And yes folks, they are going nude! The other cast members include:
- Nogizaka46 idol Yuuki Yoda as Chisa Kotegawa
- Aya Asahina as Nanaka Kotegawa
- Yuuka Ogura as Azusa Hamaoka
- Masahiro Takashima as the Kotegawa sisters’ father
Tsutomu Hanabusa, who also directed various live-action adaptations of other anime/manga like 3D Kanojo and Kakegurui is going to be at the helm of this new project as director. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Japan is distributing the movie. It will premiere in Japan on May 29, 2020.
Here’s how Kodansha describes the story:
After moving out on his own to a seaside town, Iori Kitahara makes a college debut he never anticipated. A new chapter of his life unfolds, full of diving with beautiful girls and shenanigans with a gaggle of lovable bastards! Idiot-expert Kenji Inoue and au naturel authority Kimitake Yoshioka bring you a glorious college tale filled with booze-fueled antics!
