The global pandemic known as COVID-19 has shut down many industries all over the world. Unfortunately, it has also affected the Japanese animation industry, delaying or postponing many TV anime, OVAs, and movies. However, anime director Mitsuru Hongo has some good news, because he announced that all 26 episodes of Ascendance of a Bookworm have been submitted already and are all ready for release.
The director acknowledged that the anime’s broadcast had been pushed forward from the original plans due to various issues. He also said that he hopes Ascendance of a Bookworm will provide people with some sort of entertainment in these trying times.
Muse Asia is now streaming the anime via YouTube for Southeast Asia. Fans can now watch the anime’s first cour, as well as its second cour for free right here in the region.
Here’s how they describe the anime’s story:
A certain college girl who’s loved books ever since she was a little girl dies in an accident and is reborn in another world she knows nothing about. She is now Maine, the sickly five-year-old daughter of a poor soldier. To make things worse, the world she’s been reborn in has a very low literacy rate and books mostly don’t exist. She’d have to pay an enormous amounts of money to buy one. Maine resolves herself: If there aren’t any books, she’ll just have to make them! Her goal is to become a librarian. This story begins with her quest to make books so she can live surrounded by them! Dive into this biblio-fantasy written for book lovers and bookworms!
