The TV anime adaptation of Atsushi Ohkubo’s Fire Force manga will return for a second season. And now, Funimation has released a brand new English-subtitled trailer for the new upcoming anime. It also previews the new series’ OP theme song, “Spark-Again” by Aimer.
Aside from the brand new PV, the staff also released a new key visual for the anime, featuring much of the cast. They also confirmed the second season’s new July 2020 premiere.
Tatsumi Minakawa, who previously served as an episode director for the first season, will be taking over as the anime’s new director. He’ll be replacing Yuki Yase, who directed the first season. But aside from that, much of the staff, as well as the cast, will be returning. However, Miyuri Shimabukuro is joining the cast as Kasugatani Inka.
Creator Atsushi Ohkubo is also the man behind the Soul Eater manga series. Kodansha Comics distributes the manga internationally, and here’s how they describe its story:
Terror has paralyzed the clockwork metropolis of Tokyo! Possessed by demons, people have begun to burst into flame, leading to the establishment of a special firefighting team: the Fire Force, ready to roll on a moment’s notice to fight spontaneous combustion anywhere it might break out. The team is about to get a very unique addition: Shinra, a boy who possesses the unique power to run at the speed of a rocket, leaving behind the famous “devil’s footprints” (and destroying his shoes in the process). Can the Fire Force discover the source of this strange phenomenon and put a stop to it? Or will the city burn to ashes first?
