PC Master Race, rejoice! This is because MangaGamer is now offering “Hinamizawa Virus Bundle”. This offers discounts in the visual novel series’ early chapters. However, its biggest draw is that it’s offering Higurashi When They Cry Chapter 1 for free. And this would be free until they discover a vaccine for COVID-19! Kinda appropriate for the time, huh?

The MangaGamer version for steam is available in both Japanese and English languages, and they can also choose which sprites they want, whether it be creator Ryukishi07’s original sprites, or Kurosaki’s new redesigned sprites.

As for the rest of the early chapters, chapters 2-4 are now 75% off and can be bought as a bundle. Chapters 1-4 of the visual novel make up the Question Arc. Fans can also buy the entire library, which consists of Chapters 1-8, also at a discounted price.

And that’s not all. As previously reported, the visual novels are also getting a brand new anime project. It’s already teasing that it will be a gory series too, much like the first anime adaptation. Unfortunately, the announcement did not reveal any further information about this new anime project. But do expect the staff to reveal more details in the days to come.

The Higurashi franchise revolves around the murders which often coincide with a rural village’s annual festival. 07th Expansion first launched it as a visual novel in 2002 during Comiket, and it launched as one of the bloodiest anime franchises out there. Here’s how Steam describes the game:

The 58th year of Shouwa, early summer
It’s June, and the summer heat has arrived earlier than it does most years.
By day there are crickets, and by night there are cicadas.

We’re in Hinamizawa, a small village in the countryside.
There are fewer than two thousand people here. But every year, there is an event.

This event is a mysterious death.
(The series has run from 1979 to 1983)

On a certain day in June, someone dies, and someone else goes missing.
The series of deaths is connected to the upheaval surrounding the dam construction project.
A murder case that was covered up is being reenacted.
Is it a conspiracy? A coincidence? Or perhaps a curse?

Someone who was supposed to be there isn’t.
Someone who wasn’t supposed to be there is.

Someone who was alive last night is dead now.
And someone who is here right now isn’t alive.

So, there is no way to avert tragedy. There is no choice but to give up.
But don’t give up.

Only you can stand up to this.
