The COVID-19 Pandemic has claimed another movie, and this time, it’s the 2-part Live-Action Rurouni Kenshin ‘Final Chapter’ movies. The films’ official website has announced that the two films will now premiere in Golden Week 2021, which will happen in spring of next year. Director Keishi Ootomo announced that the film studio has shut down after the Japanese government announced the state of emergency. Because of this, production has now also shut down. And while they have already finished filming, there was still a lot of post-production work and preparations for the release. But Ootomo also assured fans that the new release date also means that the films’ quality will also go higher.

Advance ticket sales for the movie stop today, May 29th. People who purchased the advance tickets can still use their purchase for the release dates. As for when it will resume, staff announced that they will reveal a new date for the ticket sales soon.

And finally, Takeru Satoh is reprising his role as Kenshin Himura for the films.

Director Keishi Ootomo will be returning from the original trilogy to direct the two films. Warner Bros. has confirmed that these will be the final films for the franchise, and it will be covering the final arc from Watsuki’s beloved manga., which is the Jinchuu arc. “The Final” will follow Kenshin’s conflict with the mysterious arms dealer, Enishi. Meanwhile, The Beginning will be a prequel of sorts, and will tell the story of how Kenshin got his iconic scar.
