It looks like we may be getting delays on some big-name shounen manga soon. This is because the most renowned shounen manga magazine of them all, Weekly Shounen Jump (One Piece, Kimetsu no Yaiba, My Hero Academia, Black Clover, Haikyuu!), has issued a statement which says that their staff foresees possible delays for some ongoing series. The main reason being the COVID-19 outbreak in Japan, which has caused a national emergency in the country.
The statement also says that mangaka are now trying new ways of minimizing their risk of catching the virus. Jump has also increased the time required for the mangaka to submit their manuscripts as they take in measures to fight COVID-19’s spread.
If there are going to be manga titles that will have their delays, Jump’s official website and Twitter Pages will be the first to announce them. As for what mangaka are doing to fight this, One Piece’s Eiichiro Oda has stated that his workplace has been modified to facilitate social distancing. And like the Jump staff, he also foresees possible delays in the future due to COVID-19 as well.
