It looks like people overseas will get the chance to get their work published on Weekly Shounen Jump Magazine. And the ones judging them will be several legendary and big name mangaka! This is because Japanese company MediBang Inc. and Shueisha have added a special international award for the Tezuka Manga Contest. The contest will be available for English, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean.
The judges are heavyweights in the manga industry, and they include:
- Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball)
- Eiichiro Oda (One Piece)
- Kazue Katou (Blue Exorcist)
- Kouhei Horikoshi (My Hero Academia)
- Takehiko Inoue (Slam Dunk)
In addition, Tezuka Productions, as well as the Editors-in-chief for both Weekly Shounen Jump and Jump SQ. will also be judging the contest as well. They will also serve as judges for the Japanese version of the award as well.
The “Tezuka Manga Contest” is one of the biggest manga contests in Japan, and it looks for new and talented mangaka. This will be a special award, as this will be their 100th iteration. They hold it twice a year since 1971, and it has produced several big mangaka to date.
The first prize winner will be invited for an awarding ceremony in Tokyo. In addition, his/her winning manga will be published in both print and digital versions of Weekly Shounen Jump Magazine. Yes, it will be part of the same magazine which gave us Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, Fist of the North Star, and many more! The winner will also receive a 2 million yen cash prize as well. The second prize winner will also get his/her manga published in the magazine, as well as getting invited to Tokyo for the awarding ceremony, in addition to the 1 million yen cash prize.The Honorable mention winner will also receive a cash prize, worth 500,000 yen. He/she will also be invited to Tokyo for the awarding ceremony.
