The Sailor Moon Crystal anime series is getting a 2-part movie sequel titled Sailor Moon Eternal. Unfortunately, Toei Animation has revealed that the films will be delayed. They even released a new PV announcing the new release dates:
According to the new video, the first film will premiere on January 8, 2021. As for the second movie. it will premiere over a month later, on February 11, 2021. The anime’s official website cited COVID-19 as the main reason for the delays. The first film was supposed to premiere on September 11th of this year.
Much of the cast from the Sailor Moon Crystal TV anime will be returning for the movie. They are:
- Kotono Mitsuishi as Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon
- Hisako Kanemoto as Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury
- Rina Satou as Rei Hino/Sailor Mars
- Ami Koshimizu as Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter
- Shizuka Itou as Minako Aino/Sailor Venus
- Misato Fukuen as Chibi-Usa/Sailor Chibi Moon
The staff also confirmed that Yoshitsugu Matsuoka will be joining the cast as Helios/Pegasus in the movie.
The films celebrate the Sailor Moon franchise’s silver or 25th anniversary. It will serve as a direct sequel to the TV anime and will be adapting the manga’s Dead Moon arc. And speaking of the manga, Mangaka Naoko Takeuchi isn’t just credited for the original work, but she’s also supervising the movie overall. Chiaki Kon will be directing both movies over at Toei Animation.
