The classic 90’s anime, Battle Athletes is getting a sequel manga by Rui Takato. Its title is Pale Blue Dot Battle Athletes Daiundoukai ReSTART, and the Comic Ruelle & Comic Jardin manga website recently posted a short prologue chapter. And in that prologue’s final page, they announced a new Battle Athletes anime project will be happening soon!

According to Comic Ruelle & Comic Jardin, in this new manga, the best athletes from all over the solar system will be coming for a huge sports tournament. According to the mangaka, this new series is set in 5100 A.D., 100 years after the events of the original. No descendant of the original characters are planned to appear in the new series.

The anime was first released as a 6-episode OVA titled Battle Athletes Daiundoukai from May 1997 to June 1998. It would then receive a TV anime titled Battle Athletes Victory, which ran from October 1997 to March 1998.

Here’s how MyAnimeList descibes the original anime’s plot:

Akari Kanzaki has just joined an all-girls academy in hopes of entering the University Satellite, an elite sports training facility. She wants to win the title of Cosmo Beauty – a title held years ago by her mother. It’s not an easy task for her as fear, doubt and peer pressure get in her way, but friends, rivals and fans slowly encourage her to overcome her obstacles and become the best of the Battle Athletes.
