After the success of the first movie, Paramount Pictures has previously announced that a sequel is the works. And now, they have announced that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will make its premiere in the United States on April 8, 2022.
Jeff Fowler will return to direct the sequel, with screenwriters Pat Casey and Josh Miller also returning, Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher and Toru Nakahara are producing, with Hajime Satomi, Haruki Satomi and Tim Miller serving as executive producers. The movie is still in development stage unfortunately, so expect more announcements in the days to come.
The first movie starred James Marsden as Tom, Jim Carey as Dr. Robotnik, and Ben Schwarz voicing the speedy blue gaming icon. It opened at #1 in the US box office and broke box office records as a video game movie. It even overtook the much-loved Detective Pikachu as the top-grossing movie based on a video game.
