The classic Higurashi: When They Cry light novels are getting a brand new anime adaptation. And now, Kadokawa has released the second PV for this new upcoming series. It reveals that the first of 13 episodes will premiere on October 1, 2020. Meanwhile, they also revealed that the 14th episode will premiere on January 7, 2020.
Passione will be animating this new project, with Monogatari series designer Akio Watanabe doing the character designs. The staff have also opened an official website and Twitter account. Here is the new anime’s latest key visual:
The staff also announced that there will also be a manga adaptation by Tomato Akase. Young Ace Up magazine will be serializing this new series beginning October 2, 2020.
The Higurashi franchise revolves around the murders which often coincide with a rural village’s annual festival. 07th Expansion first launched it as a visual novel in 2002 during Comiket, and it launched as one of the bloodiest anime franchises out there. The anime was originally slated for July, but the COVID-19 pandemic pushed its release back like many others.
