Despite having multiple hit anime under their belt, Commin Sense, which is more known to anime fans as Studio Arms, has now declared bankruptcy. The animation studio filed for special liquidation on July 22 via the Tokyo District Court. They have decided on this last May 31, after a shareholder meeting.
According to Tokyo Shoko Research (TSR), the company had record earnings in 2009 with the release of various titles, including Elfen Lied. Unfortunately, their earnings have been on a downward trend since 2011. They have changed their name from Arms to Common Sense in August 2017, but have still maintaned the name of Studio Arms as a trade name.
Arms has been known to work on adult anime alongside Pink Pineapple, as well as also working on outsourced animation work with Studio Pierrot (Naruto). They also worked with their own anime, mostly specializing in the ecchi genre, with Queen’s Blade, Ikki Tousen, and Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid. They also worked on MaoYu, Brunhildr in the Darkness, and many other titles.
