The upcoming Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Mugen Train anime movie will be set in… well… a train. And now, to help promote the upcoming movie, they’re teaming up with JR East for a special collaboration. JR East’s SL Gunma trains will feature special Demon Slayer decals. They will also be selling special merchandise and official Demon Slayer Ekiben, or train bento.
The collaboration will launch on October 9, 2020, just a few days before the movie’s October 16th release date in Japan. The train will take passengersfrom Ueno Station in Tokyo to the Usui Pass Railway Heritage Park in Gunma prefecture. There are three different plans to choose from:
- Plan A: A Demon Slayer-themed train will travel from Ueno Station to Takasaki Station. It will be a 2-hour ride, and Demon Slayer-themed ekiben and merchandise will be sold during the trip.
- Plan B: A Demon Slayer-themed train will take fans from Takasaki Station to Usui Pass Railway Heritage Park.
- Plan C: A Shinkansen (Bullet Train) will take fans from Ueno Station to Takasaki Station, and thenfrom there, an old SL Gunma Train will take them to Usui Pass Railway Heritage Park, and then back to Takasaki Station. Unfortunately, fans will need to find another way back to Tokyo on this one…
- Plan D: Like Plan B… but at night, just like the Mugen Train story
Booking is now available via the SL Gunma website, and prices range between 4,900 yen to 9,800 yen.
The movie will premiere in Japan on October 16, 2020. And thanks to Odex Private Ltd., it’s also coming to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, and Brunei. Expect Odex to reveal more details on when this will happen, as some of these countries still haven’t opened their movie theaters yet due to COVID-19.
The film itself will serve as a direct sequel to the TV anime, adapting the Mugen Train arc from the manga. Haruo Sotozaki will be returning to direct the sequel movie, as well as character designer Akira Matsushima. And yes, ufotable is once again animating it, so expect some beautiful animation sequences! As for the cast, the core main cast will be returning for the film as well.
