The Doraemon franchise is hitting a new milestone with the 50th anniversary of Fujiko F. Fujio’s original Doraemon manga. And to celebrate, the TV anime adaptation will release a three-episode anime special! It will air on Saturday, September 5, 2020, and they’re pulling out all the stops on this one.

The special will include a remake of the anime’s old episode from way back in 1973, “Ultra Mixer”. Singer Gen Hoshino, who performed the anime’s current OP, will introduce the episode as it is his favourite episode from the anime. Meanwhile, popular Japanese violinist Chisako Takashima will introduce the next episode, a special version of the 2005 episode “The Mood-Changing Orchestra”. It will feature a newly-recorded orchestral portion.

And finally, the third episode will adapt the classic manga story of “Nobita’s Dinosaur”. Of course, the story was first adapted into Doraemon’s very first movie, which also had its own movie remake in 2006. It also inspired the new Doraemon the Movie: Nobita’s New Dinosaur, which premiered last August.
