It looks like we may be watching Cells At Work! Code Black here in Southeast Asia soon. Singapore-based anime distributor, Muse Asia, has announced via their Facebook page that they have now licensed the upcoming Cells At Work! spin-off anime. However, the announcement post emphasised that “this is NOT a YouTube Upload Announcement”. This means that its free YouTube streaming for Southeast Asia is not official yet, even though they have already licensed the series.

The anime itself will premiere on January 2021. In this spin-off, Junya Enoki will be the main Red Blood Cell, while Youko Hikasa is voicing the White Blood Cell (Neutrophil). Kenjiro Tsuda will be narrating the anime. Meanwhile, Strike the Blood’s Hideo Yamamoto is directing the series, with LIDEN FILMS producing the animation.

Cells At Work! mangaka Akane Shimizu supervises the Cells At Work! Black manga. Meanwhile, Kodansha has released the series internationally as Cells at Work! Code Black. Here is how they describe its story:

The manga and anime Cells at Work! showed you what happens when a young, healthy body gets in trouble … but what if the body wasn’t so young, and was never very healthy? This new take stars a fresh-faced Red Blood Cell and his friend, the buxom White Blood Cell, as they struggle to keep themselves and their world together through alcoholism, smoking, erectile dysfunction, athlete’s foot, gout … it’s literal body horror! Whoever this guy is, he’s lucky his cells can’t go on strike!
