The story of Sailor Moon Crystal continues with an anime move serving as its sequel. Its title is Sailor Moon Eternal, and MaiDigiTV has now released a brand new trailer for the 2-part movie series. It presents new footage, including teasing some transformation sequences! Well, Sailor Moon is still a magical girl anime after all…
And that’s not all, because the staff also released a new key visual for the anime as well. It confirms the first movie’s January 8, 2020 release date, as well as the second movie’s February 11, 2020 release date in Japan. The anime films were originally planned for release at earlier dates, but COVID-19 forced the staff to delay its release.
Much of the cast from the Sailor Moon Crystal TV anime will be returning for the movie. They are:
- Kotono Mitsuishi as Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon
- Hisako Kanemoto as Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury
- Rina Satou as Rei Hino/Sailor Mars
- Ami Koshimizu as Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter
- Shizuka Itou as Minako Aino/Sailor Venus
- Misato Fukuen as Chibi-Usa/Sailor Chibi Moon
The staff also confirmed that Yoshitsugu Matsuoka will be joining the cast as Helios/Pegasus in the movie. Actress Nanao will also be joining the cast as Queen Nehellenia, leader of the Dead Moon.
The films celebrate the Sailor Moon franchise’s silver or 25th anniversary. It will serve as a direct sequel to the TV anime and will be adapting the manga’s Dead Moon arc. And speaking of the manga, Mangaka Naoko Takeuchi isn’t just credited for the original work, but she’s also supervising the movie overall. Chiaki Kon will be directing both movies over at Toei Animation.
